World Cups on the web

June 15, 2007

Being a fan of World Cup racing is frustrating to say the least. Pictorial coverage is pretty great since the likes of LitterMag and Flipper stepped up, but for videos we are left to pick over a few low-quality scraps on YouTube until Alex Rankin or Clay Porter releases their offerings, usually many months later. For the time being, though, check out the amazing Clay Porter-filmed footage on www.yeticycles.com. Serious high-quality stuff (and no, this is not a plug!) Enjoy!

Hey everyone, here’s a quick update on what I’ve been up to. In the
past month I’ve been doing a lot of downhill racing here on the east coast.
The first couple of races I was a bit rusty, not having ridden downhill
since last october. Everything came together though in time for the US Open
at Diablo Freeride Park in New Jersey. My Cannondale Judge was dialed in
so perfect for the race. I ended up shaving 4 seconds off my qualifying
time and finished the race in 10th place. I was very pleased with my result
considering the amount of talent that was present. It was my best US
Open finish to date.
Last weekend I was out in Vail, Colorado for the Teva Mountain Games –
an outdoor sports festival featuring a mountain bike speed trials race and
slopestyle exhibition. This was my first time racing speed trials and
it was a blast. After a quick rain delay between qualifying and the finals,
racing was underway. I made it from the round of 16 to the consolation round
where I raced for third. It was a close race but I bobbled and fell into the
“water hazard”, and ended up in 4th place. The slopestyle was super
fun. I feel like I rode really well but I have no clue what place I ended up.
Both comps were being filmed to be aired on NBC in the coming months so be
sure to keep a look out for those air dates.
Aside from the racing and the Teva Games, I’ve been riding everyday –
mostly dirt jump but also downhill whenever I get the chance. I’ve also
done a couple photo shoots – one with “Dirt Magazine” for an east coast
feature that will be out soon, and another shoot with a local photographer. If
anyone needs some top notch photos let me know, and I’ll hook you up
with the photogs info. There is a new magazine coming out soon called
“Distilled Magazine” in which I will have a feature article in, so keep an eye out
for that.  I’m also looking into producing my own video which I would like
to have out sometime over the winter. And be sure to keep checking my blog
which I’m trying to update regularly at www.thecutriders.com

Thanks to everyone for keeping me on my bike!
