Banshee Legend MkII

February 25, 2010

UK pro downhiller Adam Brayton is riding for Banshee for 2010 (Mythic in the UK), and recently took delivery of his 2010 rig, the Legend MkII. Charles Robertson was on hand to document him getting familiar with his new ride, and Adam gave us a brief account of his impressions of the bike.

“The Legend Mk II is such an awesome machine! The bike feels so balanced and light, it has so much grip and holds lines I didn’t think were possible. The geometry is perfect; the bike is nice and low so it corners like no other. Another thing is how it picks up speed and, even if you lose it in a section, it soon gets it back. ‘I’m sure it has a throttle! I’m running the new Cane Creek rear shock and it lives up to the hype and more! I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time on the bike to get it dialed in leading up to this year’s season.”

2010 Pro Mountainbike Gravity Tour

February 24, 2010

USA Cycling announces 2010 Professional Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (Pro GRT)

Colorado Springs, Colo. (February 23, 2010) – USA Cycling announced today the 2010 USA Cycling Professional Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (Pro GRT). In its second year, the five-race series will continue to raise the level of competitive gravity racing across the United States by providing a consistent stage of international-caliber events for elite gravity racers to showcase their downhill skills.

The Pro GRT is a downhill-only series for 2010 and will visit four states from April to September, beginning with a return visit to Port Angeles, Wash. for the Northwest Cup, April 24-25. The series will then make a trip to the opposite coast for the Plattekill Gravity Open in New York’s Roxbury Bike Park, May 22-23. Midway through the season, racers will contest the Northstar-at-Tahoe event in Truckee, Calif., June 26-27. The Pro GRT will then move to Winter Park, Colo. for the Trestle Bike Park (Crankworx Colorado), July 31-August 1, before concluding again with the Whiteface 5th Annual 5K Downhill in Lake Placid, New York, September 11-12.

Each of the five stops will offer series ranking points to top finishers, resulting in overall individual titles for professional men and women. Additionally, competitors will have the opportunity to accumulate international ranking points as two of the five races are inscripted on the UCI calendar. The racers with the most points throughout the five-race series will be recognized as the best gravity athletes competing on U.S. soil.

The 2010 series will also feature an Amateur GRT which, like the Pro GRT, will give Expert-level Category 1 racers the opportunity to compete against each other for an overall series crown.

Mondraker Fox40 integrated stem/crown

February 20, 2010

Mondraker have developed an integrated stem and crown for use with the Fox 40. Here’s what they say about it:

Mondraker is always on the offensive and trying to offer new products for bikes and components now it is time for a new piece which integrates the upper crown and the stem for the Fox F40 fork.

At the moment we are still testing some prototypes and the plan is use this in  Barel’s Summum. He and rest of the team riders are the best platform to get the best feedback on this product.

The stem and integrated crown weight is 253g, which is 115 g less than the original Fox crown and stem (368g). Also with the Mondraker version we have eliminated 4 screws. Another positive point is that the new integrated Mondraker system gives increased strength.

The new Mondraker design is completely flat you can modify the handlebar position 2cm lower. This is great for tracks where you need more grip on the front wheel.

Thomson seatclamps

February 19, 2010

It’s not often that we find ourselves excited at the prospect of a new seatclamp hitting the market, but when the manufacturer is Thomson, it makes a lot more sense. This little beauty should be on the list of any Thomson seatpost owner, as it carries the same sleek looks as its cousins, and is the perfect finishing touch to any bike.

Weighing in at only 26 grams and retailing for $29.95, it neither breaks the scales or the bank and at the end of the day, it just looks f***ing amazing. Thomson manufacture their components to the highest tolerances so it will no doubt last just as long as their world-famous seatposts. Give your bike a little love after a long winter of neglect.

To win one of these babies in 31.8mm diameter, email us at and tell us which state LH Thomson are located in, or visit us on Twitter and do some re-tweetin’.
